Knowledge of the speed of a vehicle at the moment of its collision with a pedestrian is necessary for an employee of the investigative and inquiry bodies in order to legally correctly interpret the actions of the driver in a road traffic accident and the factors that led to it. Meanwhile, there are few objective methods for establishing the speed of a car that can be used in expert practice. The article analyzes the state of the art of this problem based on the analysis of modern and foreign literature. The existing methods are considered in accordance with the main method underlying the methodology developed by its authors. It is shown that the issue of objective judgment of the speed of a vehicle at the moment of collision with a stationary obstacle (pedestrian) is complex and is solved by using a variety of approaches with varying degrees of applicability. A conclusion is made about the need to continue research in the field of "morphological" diagnostics of the conditions and circumstances of traffic accidents, which will contribute not only to comprehensive objectification of the investigation of road traffic accidents, but also to the further development of forensic science.
